Representatives of the European Union are concerned that new bans on movement and freedom of assembly were introduced in Russia during the World Cup. This is another violation of rights and freedoms of citizens.
Such a statement was made by Maya Kosjanchich, the Spokesperson of the European Commission. This was reported by the correspondent of Ukrinform in Brussels.
“The observance of human rights in Russia is a matter of concern to us. We systematically react to this by clearly expressing our positions ... We expect the Russian Federation to comply with its obligations to ensure freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and human rights in accordance with international treaties,” – the representative of the European Commission said.
She also notes that the EU policy on Russia has not changed since 2014.
