The hopes of the Ukrainian President that the decision of the Stockholm Arbitration Court may change the Fund's requirements regarding the need to raise gas prices in Ukraine have been dashed. This is reported by DW.

As IMF noted, the reforming energy prices is one of the most defining achievements in Ukraine in recent years.

“It remains important that gas prices be determined by the market, which will make it impossible both for market segmentation and reintroduction of hidden untargeted subsidies.” – said Jost Ljungman, permanent representative of the International Monetary Fund in Ukraine.

He added that the current system of subsidies for housing and utility services protected the most vulnerable households from rising gas prices.

The President Petro Poroshenko is confident that the negotiators of the Ministry of Finance and the IMF will find a “reasonable balance” regarding the fund's requirement to raise gas prices in Ukraine.

As is known, the International Monetary Fund stated that the condition for reviewing the program of extended financing and disbursement of a tranche for Ukraine is the adoption of the law on the Anti-Corruption Court and bringing gas prices to market levels.
