Forty children obtained the status of a child who suffered from military operations and armed conflict in the Donbass, as of the end of June 2018, the “Right to Protection” Foundation reports.
It is noted that the procedure for granting the status of a child who suffered from military operations and armed conflicts was approved on April 5, 2017, but as of January 1, 2018, less than 10 children obtained that status.
“In April 2018, thanks to the active position of people's deputies of Ukraine, public and human rights organizations, the procedure for granting the status of a child who suffered as a result of military operations and armed conflicts was simplified, and the categories of children entitled to obtain status were expanded. Therefore, as of June 21, 2018, 40 children have already obtained the status,” – the organization notes.
At the same time, according to UNICEF, approximately 500 thousand children were affected during the conflict in the Donbass.
It is noted that the regular meeting of the working group took place recently in Kiev. This group develops legislative acts and methodological base in the sphere of social protection of this category of children. People's deputies, executive authorities, structural units of the Ministry of Social Policy, public activists discussed the allocation of funding for the rehabilitation of children with status, providing them with benefits and financial assistance.
“Employees of social services centers for families, children and youth and child services complain about the lack of clarification regarding the status of children who have experienced psychological trauma. Most importantly, full-time psychologists who can be involved in assessing the needs of a family or a person are not enough or they are generally absent. At the same time, in Mariupol, after working with a psychologist, the health of some children has worsened due to the fact that they recalled events related to the conflict that in recent years have already been forgotten,” – Anastasia Odintsova, legal analyst of the “Right to Protection” Foundation, said.
According to her, the situation with the psychological health of children is extremely serious.
