Miners from all over Ukraine gathered beneath the walls of the Verkhovna Rada in Kiev. Several hundred people went to the meeting demanding to save coal-mining industry. This is reported on Facebook by Mikhail Volynets, the chairman of the Independent Trade Union of Miners of Ukraine (ITUM).
The miners demand funding for the development of coal mines, stop buying coal abroad, and pay off wages.
“A critical situation has developed in the state coal sector. Debt on wages to miners is 76.1 million UAH. More than half of this amount is debts to the miners of the Donbass – 400.58 million UAH and 186.7 million UAH of them – to the workers of SE “Selidovugol”. A similar situation exists in all state coal producers. People's deputies of Ukraine, support the miners – vote for the bill No. 8362! Save the state coal mines, provide social peace in our cities and well-being of our families!” – the head of the ITUM writes.
