NBU predicts a decline in GDP growth in 2019

The National Bank left unchanged the forecast of GDP growth of Ukraine at the level of 3.4% in 2018. The inflation rate at the end of the year will be 8.9%. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine, referring to comments of the representatives of the regulator.

The NBU is confident that private consumption will remain the main driver of growth. This year this indicator can be strengthened, first of all, by keeping high rates of growth in incomes of the population, which occur in face of active migration. Good trading conditions, industrial recovery, and entry of local producers into international markets have also positive influence.

At the same time, experts of the National Bank predicted a possible reduction in GDP in 2019 to 2.5% (the previous indicator was 2.9%). The inflation rate will be 5.8%. This is due to the end of the effect of improving social standards. But already in 2020, economic growth will increase to 2.9%, and inflation will slow down to 5%.

The NBU also drew attention to the fact that one of the most important conditions for the implementation of the given scenario is the introduction of structural reforms developed under the cooperation with the IMF.
