Swiss researchers from the Small Arms Survey project published data on how many weapons civilians have in the world in 2017.
Over the past 10 years, these indicators have increased significantly. Leaders of the rating are the USA. According to the research, at the moment there are more than a billion units of firearms in the world. 857 million (or 85%) of it is in the hands of the civilian population, another 133 (13%) – the military and 23 (2%) – the police.
It should be noted that we talked exclusively about small arms. Representatives of Small Arms Survey Company say that over the past 10 years, global stockpiles of weapons have grown, and this growth was due to an increase in its number in the civilian population. The civilians in the United States have most of all weapons (393 million units).
India is in the second place, China is on the third, Pakistan on the fourth. This year Ukraine and Russia entered the rating. But Belarus did not enter the leaders. If we analyze the indicators for the European region, then Russia ranks first, and Ukraine the fifth.
