Torches were found on the site of the fire, which recently occurred in the zone of the Chernobyl nuclear-power plant. The investigation verifies the possibility of arson.
A message about this was made at a briefing of the State Emergency Service about the fire in the Chernobyl zone.
“Yes, indeed, torches have been found on the site of the fire. Now the investigating authorities determine their belonging and whether they are related to this fire in general,” – Mykola Chechetkin, the head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, said.
It is worth recalling that on the morning of June 5, dry grass caught fire in the exclusion zone. Then the fire spread to the forestland. As a result, about 10 hectares caught fire.
“In the 10-kilometer zone (area of SWYD-330 Specific Purpose State Enterprise: Chernobyl NPP), smoke and ignition of the grass cover and shrubbery were detected. In the shortest time, fire teams began to extinguish it. Now the fire extinguishing is continuing,” – the report said.
The radiation background is currently within normal limits. Only a small increase was recorded in some quarters of the forest.
