This was reported by the Crimean mass media with reference to Igor Veil, the so-called chairman of the Crimean “State Committee for Water resources and Amelioration”.
“We can not solve the problem of drinking water in the Crimea by desalination of sea water, as it is done in the state of Israel and other water-scarce countries. We can not do this for a number of reasons,” – Veil said.
It is specified that the price of water taken from desalinating plants is increased 4-5 times, and can become very high for Crimeans.
In addition, the operation of desalination plants requires huge energy costs, which the peninsula also can not afford.
Another reason for the inability to turn sea water into drinking water is that there will be nowhere to put waste from desalination production in the form of concentrated salt mass (osmosis), which makes up 60% of the work from each plant.
