The Supreme Council of Justice supported the presidential bill “On the establishment of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court”.

This is reported by Interfax-Ukraine.

According to the agency, the decision was adopted unanimously on Monday, June 18.

As reported, on June 7 the Verkhovna Rada adopted law No. 7440 on the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine. Petro Poroshenko, the President of Ukraine, signed it on June 11.

Poroshenko called on the parliament to pass two more bills this week to complete the creation of the anti-corruption court: on the creation of a court and on the introduction of amendments to the draft law on the judicial system and the status of judges.

At the same time, the international anti-corruption network “Transparency International” urged to change the provision of the law on the anti-corruption court, which will prolong the trials against corrupt officials.

This is an amendment that establishes that appeals in the cases of NABU, which the courts are already considering now, will be considered in the courts of general jurisdiction, and not in the anti-corruption court.

Earlier, the Anti-Corruption Action Centre of Ukraine reported that there was no such amendment in the conciliation table, published on the website of the Verkhovna Rada. Such a norm appeared in the promulgated text of the law. This amendment was not read out in the session hall before the adoption of the law by Ruslan Kniazevich, the chairman of the Committee for Legal Policy and Justice, and was not discussed at the committee.
