The Verkhovna Rada adopted the law “On National Security of Ukraine”.
248 people's deputies voted for this decision, UNIAN reports.
It is noted that the law defines the principles of state policy in the areas of national security and defense.
Among the fundamental national interests of Ukraine are the following: Ukraine's integration into the European political, economic, secure, legal space; gaining membership in the European Union and in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization; development of equal and mutually beneficial relations with other states.
The law also specifies that the threats to the national security of Ukraine and the respective priorities of state policy in the spheres of national security and defense are defined in the National Security Strategy of Ukraine, the Strategy for Military Security of Ukraine, the Cybersecurity Strategy of Ukraine and other documents on national security and defense issues adopted by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, and approved by the President of Ukraine.
The law specifies civilian control, in particular the condition of public order in the security and defense sector, their availability, equipment status of modern weapons, military and special equipment, the provision of the necessary supplies of material and readiness to perform tasks for designation in peacetime and in a special period; efficiency of the use of resources, including budget funds by the security sector and defense.
It is noted that public associations can receive information from government agencies on the activities of the staff of the security and defense sector, except for information with limited access; carry out public expertise of draft laws, decisions, programs, submit their conclusions and proposals for consideration to relevant state bodies.
The Security and Defense Sector of Ukraine consists of four interrelated components: the security forces; defense forces; military-industrial complex; citizens and public associations that voluntarily participate in ensuring national security.
