Earlier, the press service of the National Bank reported that new coins (one and two hryvnia) will appear in the trade enterprises of Ukraine in early May. However, Ukrainians will be able to receive them as change and pay with iron money today.
At the same time, paper notes will not be withdrawn; they will simply be stopped printing and gradually be withdrawn from circulation. As experts say, iron money can be used for about 20 years, and paper money is torn in a year. But both will be circulating, until the paper money disappears from uses.
Such a replacement of paper money with iron will save the state budget almost a billion UAH. And within the next two years, the National Bank will put into circulation coins of a larger denomination – five and ten hryvnias. In size they are bigger than one and two hryvnia. So the purses of Ukrainians will grow heavy at least on the weight of coins.
