At the moment, there is no serum from botulism in Ukraine.
This was said by Vladimir Kurpita, the director general of the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health, in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
In particular, according to him, Ukraine has no possibility of own production of serum from botulism.
“There is no own production of serums from botulism in Ukraine. In general, there are few countries in the world where this serum is produced, since this drug is very difficult to produce in an unchanged quality, so it is produced in small batches. In addition, the purchase of serums has never been the task of the Ministry of Health. The department has never bought this product in the history of independent Ukraine. It was always purchased by local authorities for the means of the regional budgets, as a rule, in Russia. When the conflict between Ukraine and Russia began, the purchases stopped,” – Kurpita said.
He also said that that year the Ministry of Health for the first time sent part of the funds, which are included into the state budget for the purchase of medicines, for the purchase of serums. It is reported that more than 40 million UAH had already been spent on these needs.
