The first free heart surgery was carried out using angiograph in the new cardiology center of the Emergency Hospital of Mariupol.
The first patient who underwent surgery on the heart without surgical intervention was the woman from Mariupol, who had been taken to the department with acute myocardial infarction, local journalists reported.
To save the woman from death, doctors decided to carry out the operation using new equipment. Now the patient is doing well.
According to the head physician, Sergey Orleansky, the task of the angiograph is to restore the patency of artery. The sooner the necessary manipulations are made, the less the consequences will be. But without surgery a person can die.
The cardiologists note that it is important to perform the operation no later than 6 hours after the emergence of pain. If more time passes, the operation will be useless.
Although the operations using angiograph have been carried out since 2007 in the city on the basis of a private center, the woman from Mariupol became the first patient to whom the operation was carried out completely free of charge.
It is worth noting that the cardiology center works around the clock. In total, 6 doctors are working in the center. They are always ready to help patients.
