The Association of Rights Holders and Content Providers reported that from January 1, 2019, paid television services, including cable television, IPTV and television of other technologies, were noticeably more expensive in Ukraine, Epravda reports with reference to the Association’s website.
“The subscription fee can grow by 15-40% depending on regional characteristics, a set of television channels, various economic indicators of the providers,” – the message says.
The Association notes that according to the State Statistics Service for the first half of 2018, the volume of services sold per cable TV subscriber, including digital, averages about 72 UAH in Ukraine.
However, due to a significant increase in fees for the use of intellectual property rights by producers of Ukrainian content, the need to increase wages for employees, payments for electricity and the like, tariffs continue to grow.
Only for access to packages with Ukrainian TV channels, the minimum tariffs may be approximately 56-70 UAH (depending on the well-being of the region).
“But, most likely, the tariffs can be higher, since providers also have to spend significant funds on the purchase of rights to retransmit entertainment foreign TV channels in order to interest the subscriber and create additional value of the television service compared to the free airtime figure,” – the Association noted.
As is known, according to the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting, 32.3% of households use the on-air method for receiving television signals in Ukraine, of which only 8% accept the terrestrial signal in a digital standard.
