The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) presented technical characteristics and design of new coins. Coins of a new sample with a face value of one, two, five and ten UAH will go into circulation already in April (“Segodnya” newspaper).
According to Viktor Zayvenko, the Head of the Department of Money Circulation of the National Bank of Ukraine, the new coins will be silvery, small in size, light in weight and practical for calculation.
They will preserve portraits of outstanding Ukrainians as well as on the corresponding banknotes. On one hryvna there will be a portrait of Vladimir the Great, on two – Yaroslav the Wise. On the tail side of five UAH will be the image of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, and on the “ten” – Ivan Mazepa.
The head side of the coins depicts the small National Coat of Arms of Ukraine (trident), denomination, the name of the issuing country (Ukraine) in the frame of the ornament. New coins will be noticeably different from coins of other denominations in terms of color and size, which will help to easily determine the denomination.
Elements for protecting coins include the design of head side and tail side, the design of milled edge (type of grooving) and small elements of images. And it is very difficult to reproduce them in an improvised manner.
