Ukraine pledged to increase the price of gas for the population by 15% from May 1, 2019, and from 2020 to equate it to the market, UNIAN reports.
This is stated in the stand-by program announced in the Memorandum on Economic and Financial Policies between Ukraine and the IMF.
“As a first step towards liberalizing gas tariffs, the government decided to increase the wholesale price of gas for domestic use by 26 percent, effective from November 1, 2018, and another 15 percent from May 1, 2019,” – the text of the program states.
According to this program, the next step in strengthening the gas sector will be full compliance with market prices for gas from January 1, 2020.
The Memorandum on Economic and Financial Policies on the new 14-month stand-by program for Ukraine in the amount of $ 3.9 billion has been officially announced by the International Monetary Fund. Earlier, on December 18, it was approved by the IMF Council.
