The World Boxing Organization (WBO) awarded the all-round champion, Alexander Usyk, the Ukrainian, with the status of Super Champion in heavyweight division. This is reported by talkSPORT.

The WBO belt was the first in the Usyk’s career, which he had won in September 2016, defeating Krzysztof Głowacki, the Polish.

After that, the Ukrainian defended it five times and added the WBC, WBA and IBF titles to it. As a result, the WBO decided to remark him with a special title.

“Voting has already taken place, and Usyk has become a Super Champion. He will be awarded with a special belt. Also, based on the rules of the WBO, his promoter can apply to the champion's committee with a request to make Usyk a mandatory challenger for the belt in heavyweight division,” – one representative of the WBO said.

With the status of Super Champion, Usyk can become a mandatory challenger for the belt division below or above at any time. He can exercise this right against Anthony Joshua (21-0, 20 KO), who owns the WBO belt in heavyweight.

We recall that earlier, Eddie Hearn, the British promoter, spoke about the possible boxing match of his client Anthony Joshua with Alexander Usyk.
