On Sunday, March 24, it is planned to open “Zolotoye” Checkpoint in the Lugansk region.
This was reported today by Irina Gerashchenko, the First Vice-Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, the representative of Ukraine in the humanitarian subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group, Interfax reported.
Yevgen Marchuk, the representative of Ukraine in the TCG, noted that the opening of the checkpoint is envisaged by the decision of the "Normandy Four" in Berlin in 2016.
“Several times the Ukrainian side carried out all the necessary engineering and technical works: demining, repair, cleaning the roadside, prepared the staff for work (doctors, border guards, and other specialists), preliminary informing the opposite side about the readiness of the opening of “Zolotoye” Checkpoint. More than 7 million UAH were spent on all these preparatory works,” – Marchuk said.
He clarified that almost 135 thousand citizens live in the checkpoint area on both sides of the border line. Currently, about 38 thousand citizens cross the six existing checkpoints daily.
According to Marchuk’s forecasts, the number of citizens who will cross all checkpoints on Easter and commemorative days will increase to 50 thousand daily.
“By opening “Zolotoye” Checkpoint, we simplify the crossing for people,” – he stressed.
