Over the past 2018 in the Donetsk region there were more than three thousand accidents. Of these, 850 with the victims, the accident occurred through the fault of drivers and pedestrians. These statistics were promulgated by the State National Police in the Donetsk region.
It is also reported that the number of accidents in comparison with previous years has decreased, but their severity has increased. During the year, 105 people died in accidents, 1116 were injured. In total, in 2018, police officers from the Donetsk region documented 54,000 traffic violations.
Every thirteenth violator was either in alcoholic or drug intoxication, mostly all drivers, not pedestrians. There were cases when drivers had been stopped right with a syringe in their pocket.
The police made up four thousand administrative protocols for drunk driving. Today, the fine for drunk driving is 34 thousand UAH, and if you repeat the same violation, you will have to pay 51 thousand UAH. The offender is also deprived of the rights to drive a car from one to three years.
To save the lives of people on the road, law enforcement officers held many useful promotions throughout the year, and the Safe Taxi project was launched. So now taxi drivers are required to undergo a medical examination before driving a car.
