The opening of an inclusive resource center (IRC) will make it possible to support all children with special educational needs of Druzhkovka with the help of qualified specialists.
About a thousand children in the city between the ages of 2 and 18 need psychological and pedagogical assistance. The establishment of a specialized center in the city will make it possible to provide them with methodological, psychological, logopedic assistance, as well as speech pathology by specialists. It is done for the development of children and their preparation for life in society.
The center will employ eight specialists, including psychologists, speech pathologists, speech therapists, and a rehabilitation teacher. Inna Alekhina, the head of the IRC, says that all children of the city who need specialists’ help will go through an integrated assessment. After that, a corrective and restorative work program will be prescribed for each child, depending on the state of his/her health. All services provided by the center will be absolutely free.
Oksana Lozovskaya is the mother of little Dasha. The girl was diagnosed with autistic disorder. Her mother says that they had been waiting for an inclusive center for a long time. Dasha needs classes with a psychologist and speech therapist.
- We are grateful to everyone who took part in the opening of the center. Previously, we had to contact specialists of different institutions, now all the procedures will be held in one place. We hope that employment in an inclusive center will help the child's condition to stabilize, - Oksana says.
Other parents are eagerly awaiting positive changes in the development of their “special” children.
- Last year the Law of Ukraine “On Education” was amended. Thanks to such an amendment, it became possible to create inclusive centers. Now in our city there is an opportunity to render all-round assistance to children with special needs. I think that the range of services of the center will be expanded in the future, - the mayor of the city, Valery Gnatenko, said.
