The EU is reducing financial assistance to Ukraine, as the country is emerging from the crisis.
This was announced in an interview with Yevropeyskaya pravda by Valdis Dombrovskis, the Vice-President of the European Commission.
He recalled that the previous, third macro-financial assistance program of the EU was not completed by Ukraine.
“But most of the unfulfilled requirements have been transferred to the new program. We are talking about the anti-corruption sphere, including the creation of an anti-corruption court, checking the declarations of civil servants, checking the final owners of the companies,” – the European Commissioner said.
“Ukraine has already done a lot of work, and this gives grounds to believe that the current program will be successful. And I do not see any problems that will prevent Ukraine from getting the first tranche this year,” – Dombrovskis said.
He noted that the size of macro-financial assistance programs, as a rule, is determined on the basis of existing problems in the state.
“The size of macro-financial assistance programs, as a rule, is determined on the basis of existing macro-financial problems in the state. This is the basis, because such a program is an instrument for overcoming the crisis. We proceeded from the current economic situation in Ukraine (and I recall – the Ukrainian economy is growing!); and we believe that this amount is sufficient. As you know, the new program is a billion euros in two tranches of 500 million,” – the official said, answering the question that at the beginning of the year, the President Petro Poroshenko announced that the EU would provide 1.8-2 billion euros, and now it is about half of the amount.
Besides, Dombrovskis reminded, the help of the EU is connected with presence of cooperation with IMF.
