Our compatriot Julia Levchenko, who performs in the high jump, became the silver medalist of the European Athletics Indoor Championships, which had ended in the Scottish capital in Glasgow.
In addition to Levchenko, two more Ukrainians reached the final – Irina Gerashchenko and Katerina Tabashnik. The first completed its performance at a height of 1.97 m, taking the fifth place. The second did not conquer the plank of 1.99 m, but she took 1.97 m from the third attempt, while Lithuanian representative Aireina Palshite did it from the first time. In the end, it was she who became the bronze medalist of the competition.
Levchenko took everything “immaculately” to a height of 1.99 meters — she needed two attempts to reach this line. The Ukrainian completed her performance at a height of 2.01 m. Only representative from Russia, Maria Lasitskene, managed to win Levchenko.
Note that for Levchenko, this is the second award at the European Athletics Indoor Championships. In 2017, she won the bronze. Also, the 21-year-old Ukrainian is the silver medalist of the 2017 World Championship.
Thus, the Ukrainian team finished performing at the European Championships in Glasgow with five medals. Earlier, Andrei Protsenko won the silver, after which Olga Saladukha, Marina Bekh-Romanchuk and Olga Lyakhovaya climbed to the third step of the winners' podium.
