At the end of 2018, Ukraine retained the 84th place in the Democracy Index, reserving the status of a “hybrid democracy”.
The annual ranking was published by The Economist.
Among the countries of Eastern Europe, Ukraine is ranked 17th, receiving, as in the past year, 5.69 points out of 10.
In the ranking for 2017, Ukraine, together with Montenegro, occupied 83-84 places.
The edition notes the loss of Russia, which belongs to the "authoritarian regimes", which had lost immediately nine positions in the ranking (144 place, 2.94 points).
According to the report, Norway, Iceland, Sweden, New Zealand and Denmark are in the top 5 most democratic countries in the world. Syria and North Korea close the ranking.
